Various Artists - Romeo + Juliet (10th Anniversary Edition)
- The 10th anniversary of the soundtrack to the modern day remake of William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, has all the songs included on the first installment of the soundtrack; there are two parts to it. This commemorative edition has bonus tracks that are remixes and instrumental versions of the other tracks on the album.

Garbage begins the album with one of their signature songs, “#1 Crush,” a song about obsession with Shirley Manson’s orgasmic, yet chilling vocals. The lyrics speak of an intense infatuation bordering on the deranged, with lines such as, “I would die for you, I’ve been dyin’ just to feel ya by my side, to know that you’re mine. I wall cry for you, I will cry for you I will wash away your pain with all my tears and drown your fear. I will pray for you. I will pray for you I will sell my soul for something pure and true, someone like you…You will believe in me and I will never be ignored. I will burn for you, feel pain for you I will twist the knife and bleed my achin’ heart and tear it apart, I will lie for you beg and steal for you I will crawl on hands and knees, until ya see you’re just like me.” The eerie message of such creepy worship mirrors the exorbitant amount of violence and fierce vibe of DiCaprio and Danes’ relationship in the movie.

The first bonus track is “Introduction to Romeo,” which is a piece conducted by Craig Armstrong. He directs two of the bonus tracks on the album. You can hear dialogue from DiCaprio’s “Romeo” throughout the piece, as he emotes lines such as, “Why then…the loving hate…heavy likeness serious vanity misshaped chaos…sad hours seem long.”

The second piece Armstrong conducts is an instrumental version of “Kissing You (Love Theme from Romeo + Juliet)” by Des’ree. The piano work is somber and intrepid, which perfectly describes the pure love of these two people. DiCaprio can be heard whispering a solo conference, with lines such as, “To my heart love till now for I never saw truth until this night.” The music billows as the track continues mirroring the progression of the two’s feelings until their ultimate demise at the cruel hand of fate.

Romeo + Juliet (10th Anniversary Edition) has more additional tracks that will correspond to the motion picture. The intensity of the music parallels the vibrant intensity felt between DiCaprio and Danes. This 10th anniversary edition of the soundtrack is the quintessential breakthrough remake of a literary classic.
