This Beautiful Republic - Even Heroes Need A Parachute
- This Beautiful Republic’s Even Heroes Need A Parachute is chock full of rocking songs that are thought provoking as well as catchy to listen to. Some of the songs are transparent in meaning while other songs a listener might have to hear a couple of times to pinpoint the band’s implications, but all are titillating with their introspective vocals and adept instrument play.
“Casting Off” has ripping guitar and drum right from the first note. It’s a ballad-like song about departing from long held emotions and people in order to survive, with lyrics like, “Can you forget all the lies your told? Will you let go of all the things you hold…What will you do when everything’s gone, that’s all you wanted…I caught you wanting it all desire can change your heart you’re so much better off when nothing weighs you down.” The vocalist seems to be conveying to listeners that unneeded baggage can be an unnecessary load to carry and if possible, you must do everything in your power to rid yourself of such things.
“Going Under” has more powerful guitar and drum work with attention-getting screaming in the intro. This song seems to be another memo to listeners to heed the band’s advice of not letting things encumber you so much that functioning in everyday life is insurmountable, with lyrics like, “Doubt has never proven anything…Hesitation will keep you away, hesitation will keep you away. I’m finally free from the burden that was drowning me.” In this song, the band is using a metaphor to get across their meaning. The vocalist’s tone has a hint of subtle pain just beneath the surface so listeners can feel that he knows of whence he speaks and doesn’t want others to feel the crushing agony he has endured.
On “Jesus to the World,” a slightly calmer tone takes over but the guitar and drums are still prevalent. The band is broadcasting a holy musical letter to listeners, with lyrics like, “Sometimes it’s hard to see you, but I see your people, sometimes it’s hard to hear you but I hear your preachers. My proof is the way, the way that they shine that’s how I know that the sun is coming down and I get the feeling that I am not whole yet. It’s Jesus to the world.” The feeling that the band isn’t quite complete in body, mind and spirit is evident. The temperament of the song and the timbre of the vocalist is almost heavenly as he emotes the lyrics.
Even Heroes Need A Parachute, by This Beautiful Republic, has superb instrument play and songs with crystal clear meanings as well as shrouded ones. But every song is guaranteed to fill you with joy and get you revved up for your day.
