Kelly Sweet - We Are One
- Even though Kelly Sweet is only 18 years old, she doesn’t bare her midriff or put her voice to tracks saccharine enough to give the listener a tooth ache. After one listen to her debut album, We Are One, one would not even guess that she is just barely legal.
The album is slow-paced and clearly from the depths of the singer’s heat, perfect for the background of a candle lit dinner.
For the song “Crush,” about an infatuation on the borderline of love and not knowing which it is, Sweet does a two-part harmony with herself. She croons, “Just my luck, I’ve fallen in love here in my imagination, I’m so happy and so free maybe you’re just meant for me.”
In a more upbeat tune, “How ‘Bout You” uses the lyrics, “I believe in faith, I believe in dreams, make the most of all those little things, because all the things you touch, leaves a trace of love, in the end it comes back to you,” to signify letting go of all of life’s worries and to “live life free.”
Sweet can even pull off Aerosmith’s rock anthem, "Dream On," in a gorgeous way that transforms the original into an almost hymn-like tune that saddens yet uplifts the listener simultaneously.
She also sings in Sanskrit, Italian and French in "Caresse Sur l’Ocean,” “Giorno Dopo Giorno,” “Je T’aime” and “Now We Are Free,” showing off the language skills Sweet has been honing since she was 11, like a seasoned composer.
