Giorgia Fumanti
From My Heart

From My Heart, the debut album from Italian soprano Giorgia Fumanti, is an apt title for an album where Fumanti's voice echoes for miles and every emotion is extrapolated from her heartrending intonations.

When "Your Love" comes on, all that listeners can hear are the beautifully orchestrated instruments that are in the intro. Then, Fumanti's powerful pitch incites listeners as she goes from one musical note to the next, seamlessly and with immeasurable grace. Fumanti speaks about a love that some believe only resides in the movies or in fairy tales, with lyrics like, "I look at you over there, beside the night. You touched me and calmed my fear." The passion with which Fumanti emotes each lyric is so emphatic that listeners can almost feel as if she is standing right beside them.

"Peace of Heaven" has piano, and Fumanti's voice is a little lighter than in the previous track. Yet the unclad emotion isn't diluted in the least by the refined tone of this song. She inquires throughout as if she is rummaging for answers to a burning question that has simmered inside of her for an undisclosed amount of time, with lyrics like, "Have you ever seen the light?/Did they ever touch your heart with every breeze?/You can hear their song it seems even as you feel the breeze on your face. Do you feel the glow all around you so? Tell me do you know, do you know, there is a peace of heaven all around everywhere you go?" Fumanti's octave level intensifies to soaring altitudes as the song continues as if she is trying to reach the very heavens themselves with her immaculate voice.

On "A Rose Among Thorns," the intro has a foreboding tone to it, but then uplifts into a rapturous melody. Fumanti's timbre starts out somewhat solemn and a bit more timid than the other tracks. This song seems to be describing a dream as Fumanti paints a fantastical mural of images in listeners' minds, with lyrics like, "That began as a whisper in a quiet place. A dream can inspire the world/The wind can take our thoughts of the wasteland where we walk into a beautiful land where heroes proudly stand...Their vision embraces the world." Fumanti's potent voice will rouse listeners to their core and make them feel the vigor with which she sings each and every note.

If you are a fan of exquisite instrument play and want to hear a voice that, if you didn't know better, came straight from the Promised Land itself, then Giorgia Fumanti's From My Heart is the album that will leave its mark on your heart.
