One Note at a Time
One Note at a Time, from Future Builders, has songs that will pump you up and others that are perfect to listen to as you try to rouse yourself after a night of partying with friends and you are still befuddled from the experience.
The first track's intro has dead-on guitar chords throughout. Then, a female vocalist wails about what could be a nightmare as she paints disturbing images in listeners' minds, such as, "Goodnight, I try to walk into a burning fire/Hold me not and give my shakin' body." Her voice cracks every so often which indicates the emotion behind the song.
The second track has faster drum work and a much more peppy vibe. The vocalist here is male and has a more assured voice then the female vocalist. He's screaming his need for companionship, with lines like, "I need a friend, someone I can hold on to/I'll hold my fears and I'm never turnin' back/I'll break the walls I leave behind." The solemnity behind this song is felt as the vocalist's timbre does tremble a bit which could tip off listeners to his urgent necessity to find an ally in life.
The third track has even deeper guitar and drum play. The male vocalist on this track hums as if he is waking up groggy, as his voice changes timbre and often times sounds out of tune. The song muses about being unable to awaken himself from a slumber, with lines like, "Wasting away/Still layin' in my bed, eyes wide open/These lazy days get inside of me." One can envision the vocalist lying on their bed trying to muster the stamina to get up, it's an experience everyone has had and can relate to.
One Note At A Time, from Future Builders, is an ingenious title for an album where the notes are very precise, but the vocalists toning up their voices so breakage doesn't occur is sorely needed. Some might enjoy hearing the occasional tone deaf timbre but it might turn off others.
