K23 Orchestra - Whisper of a Newborn Ghost
- A rap album unlike anything you have heard before describes K23 Orchestra’s Whisper of a Newborn Ghost. The vocalist singes along with lyrical rigor and smooth as silk transitions. The band muses about difficult times and hard knocks with a crackerjack beat.
The first track’s opening has electronic sounds whose creepy jolting sound is aided by a synthesizer that further emphasizes each throbbing note. Guitar and percussion work blend in as the lead rapper muses about life in the ghetto, with lyrics like, “Six hours asleep…The windows of houses and tenements.” He goes on about life in meager conditions and how he has survived yet another day in the concrete jungle.
The second track has more of a disco-like vibe to it, something that is completely uncharacteristic of a rap album. Then, percussion and drum play join the mix for a totally divergent sound. The rhythm just grooves from there which makes this instrumental piece one that listeners can just sit back and jive to.
On the third track, the lead rapper goes on about the state of the world today. He lists material possessions that people clamor to obtain while the world is losing ground and things are going by the wayside, with lyrics such as, “In a life of diminished lands and infinite plans, night and day we stress…High in demand SUV, all terrain…Diamond ring, gold chain, I’m drivin’ through LA’s cold rains.” One can picture all of these belongings and what people will do to get them, sometimes at the expense of the welfare of the planet.
K23 Orchestra’s Whisper of a Newborn Ghost is a unique rap album and the band puts their own immutable spin on topics this musical genre has covered, but they add a brand new element that might make them poised for immense success in the music industry.
