David Martin - Something in Your Eyes
- David Martin’s self-produced debut, Something in Your Eyes, has melodic ballads of love that are akin to platinum selling artists such as Billy Joel and Sting, but Martin puts his unique and soulful sound into each lyric, which will make listeners feel each word he speaks to the very essence of their being.

The title track has drum work from Manu Katche and guitar work from Martin and Paul Moak. Martin emotes temperate tidings about a prior encounter with his beloved that told him she was “the one,” with lines like, “Take a walk with me and let’s go back in time. Do you remember the heat of December and the way we walked through pouring rain and endless talk and the way we laughed out loud? There was something in your eyes and now I see it was your love for me. There was something in your eyes and what I saw still holds me in awe.” Martin’s breathless vocals audibly instill in listeners the depth of his emotions, and how even after time has passed he still marvels at the love he has found.

“Our Love” has gentle piano work from Martin and Jamie Kenney. Kenney also lends his Fender Rhodes skills to the track, which gives it a power ballad motif, and the drum play from Katche seals the deal. Martin expounds on all the things he loves, but he asserts that nothing equates to his partner, with lines like, “I love the smell of rain as I watch the seasons change…Love the sound of waves and the ways that apples taste and I know these are familiar and us. But our love is our love and girl I love our love. And heaven has given this love to only us, and I have our love,” Martin is proclaiming how lucky he feels to have found such a relationship and wants to declare it in song.

“I Can’t Imagine” has a whimsy intro with percussion work from Katche, which is supplemented by Martin and Kenney with their keyboard work. The song’s mellifluous strains echo Martin’s assertion that he cannot fathom life without this female, with lines like, “When the stars are that we can share, and we are forced to breathe different air I can’t imagine my life without you, I can’t imagine my life without you.” Martin is stating just how empty his existence would be without her and the breathy timbre of his voice signals to listeners, he speaks from his heart.

David Martin’s Something in Your Eyes is an overly romantic grouping of tracks that lay open Martin’s bosom and are perfect for listeners who want to tell the one they love their most heartfelt feelings and intentions.
