Kaddisfly - Set Sail the Prairie
- A mixture of electronic sounds and ripping guitar and drum work make up Kaddisfly’s second release on the Sub City Records label entitled, Set Sail the Prairie. The vocalist’s timbre is chilling at times and at others it’s outright hypnotic. This combination will entrance listeners to take heed of the compelling messages in each and every track.
“Summer Solstice” is a rapt track complete with soothing guitar and percussion play. The vocalist paints a calming picture of relaxing images with lyrics like, “I am a blade of grass trembling in the breeze affected by surroundings.” His voice is so placid that one could do yoga to this song while in the Lotus position.
“Junior Campfire” has speedier guitar and drum work. Its message is to keep an eye on what is going on around you and to never under any circumstances let your guard down, with lyrics like, “Welcome to your life, you better watch your steps…Then you could be happy.” The vocalist seems to be conveying that if you are mindful of things in your life then it will be a joyous one, but if you don’t then you better watch out.
On “Harbor,” there is guitar and drum play facilitated by what sounds like a synthesizer for an electronica-like sound. The vocalist sounds somewhat despondent as he emotes such lyrics as, “In this moment…They say you found the world and that you understand it complete.” The rhythm of the song is mesmerizing and the communication seems to be affirmation of understanding of the inner workings of the world.
“Birds” is an apt title for a song that has the animal’s tweaks in the intro along with drums, guitar and percussion. An unusual element is also injected in the form of electronic sounds. These sounds bring an ominous vibe to the song, yet the vocalist speaks of how a female has bewitched him into a romantic stupor, with lyrics like, “Last night I was inspired, she affected me like sunlight.”
Kaddisfly’s Set Sail the Prairie is an album filled with interesting melodies and meditative lyrics that will relax you against any obstacles you face.
