DJ Encore - Unique
- A suffuse of techno, electronica and pop encompasses DJ Encore’s album, Unique. The title is truly behooving an album that is difficult to classify in just one musical genre. With its use of synthesizers, drums, guitar and electronic sounds, it is a nonpareil musical experience.
“You Can Walk On Water” has a techno intro that uses a synthesizer, which makes this song one that is guaranteed to be heard at both techno and electronica nightclubs across the globe. The female vocalist has a tender voice as she croons such lines as, “Baby you can walk on water. Tell me what you need to know, about the destiny before, before it fades away. Maybe I could try to understand what you feel inside. I know you’ll make it through someday. Baby you can walk on water. Baby you can fly like a bird. You can walk through fire without even getting hurt. Baby you can breathe once again. You can reach the highest mountain. You can do what you want it’s up to you.” The fast paced beat and self-esteem-boosting lyrics will make any listeners feel they can accomplish any task as long as they set their mind to it.
“Sweeter Than Beauty” has what sounds like keyboard work, along with synthesizer play to back it up. It also has percussion work in the background. The murmuring timbre of the female vocalist gives the song a dreamy tone. The title for the song is apt as she talks about all the sensual and piquant things she could do for her mate, with lines like, “I could walk away and still be with you, still be with you. I could tell the sun to kiss your skin, kiss your skin…I could ease your mind. Sweeter than beauty, stronger than earth…Oh kinder than tears...I’m grateful that you’re here.”
On “Falling,” the futuristic rhythm continues with the synthesizer work being stepped up quite a bit. The female vocalist tells about her vision of running away with her partner and escaping to a world unto themselves, with lines such as, “I wish you had my imagination. So you could look inside of me, and see my deepest fascination. It’s drivin’ me mad. I only want you to be fallin’ for me as I’m fallin’ for you. We could run away…And you’ll be fallin’ for me as I’m fallin’ for you. We could run away and escape without a clue.” The deftness of the song embodies the lyrics as listeners can envision a pair of lovers scurrying away, blissfully happy to be in each other’s company.
On “Wanna Fly?” the techno vibe is gone and substituted by adept guitar play. The vocalist talks about feats that she can partake of with her partner and what she thinks he can withstand, with lines like, “I wanna go back in your car to what we had and what you are…You can walk your way through the fire but you always get burned…If you want I’ll take you higher you’ll only be hurt. Don’t you wanna feel like a hurricane…Don’t you wanna be flying in the sky?” She continually questions her man as to what he would like her to do and if he is man enough to accept her challenges.
Unique, by DJ Encore, is an amalgamation of several genres of music, but is principally electronica based. For those who enjoy tracks where they can display their favorite dance moves and really feel the music, then this album will suit them just fine.
