Casey Neill - Brooklyn Bridge
- Brooklyn Bridge, from Casey Neill, has somber lyrics and tracks that describe sites that have significance in Neill’s life. These localities have both positive and negative memories for Neill and his voice inherently reflects the chosen emotion he wants to convey succinctly.

The first song paints a vibrant picture in one’s mind of Neill and his partner at a time in the past while they are ambulating down the lane as a couple in love. Yet, Neill’s voice has an air of remiss within it as he croons lines such as, “You and I walkin' hand in hand we're talkin’ down the long waterfront dock. Smell of fish it lingers from the midnight market we're quiet in the way two lovers talk….We will be delivered, Across the Brooklyn Bridge. Across the Brooklyn Bridge…The glory of New Amsterdam…The old New York that didn’t give a damn.” In this song is a history lesson about the olden times of the Empire State and one of the eldest suspension bridges in the country.

The second song has much harder guitar work and the drum play makes for a rockin’ tune. There is muted percussion in the background which brings a slightly softer tone to the song but only in spurts. Neill again gives listeners a peek into a world they might not be accustomed to, with lines like, “Sellin’ incense on the corner. The sweet smell fills the air…The beautiful and the broken…I’m drinkin’ down on 11th and Main…We are the same.” The drumming then kicks in spades as Neill really gets into the song and listeners can sense this is a deeply personal track for the artist.

The third song has more guitar and drum work but the message is communicated kind of like a fable, with lines such as, “Brother if you are weary and worn there’s a light in the window for thee…And I’ll take your heart...In a house filled with vice, filth and spit...We danced…On the east river strand…The whiskey flowed like the Tigress through the holy land.” There is what sounds like a flute throughout Neill’s musing which furthers the fiction like tone. Though some of the images Neill conjures up are less than flattering, he describes them with such detail that listeners are invariably drawn in.

On the fourth song, strong guitar riffs are ripe within the intro. Neill’s sad timbre returns as he emotes about all the fibs that can be fed to us throughout our lives in lines like, “Headed off into another lazy corner…Take it all for granted you can still say yes to a reproduction of a smile...Play it off until all your lines are forsaken. It’s as simple as it seems. You heard it all before you heard so many G-D damn lies they just fill our minds with little myths of easy dreams. Who was the fool that taught you to believe in all this weightless faceless put on and put off faces? Who was that demon that took you dancing down that road?”

Casey Neill’s Brooklyn Bridge summons visions of the past using imaginative lyrics and metaphors. If you want to take a journey into the long-ago, then be sure to cross the Brooklyn Bridge.
