Erasure - Light at the End of the World
- Even after 20 albums, Erasure isn’t going anywhere. Singer Andy Bell and synth-artist Vince Clark are ready to be back on the dance music circuit with their latest album, Light at the End of the World. The duo is intent on sucking their listener in and taking them on an insanely synthed out roller-coaster ride, where Bell’s voice soars effortlessly over Clark’s beats.
The LP has its ironic moments. “Sunday Girl” is the most up-beat and fun sound on it, yet it holds a different message. The lyrics speak about meeting a woman at a club and having this great time, when the man has to say, “I go and drop a bombshell upon you, I’ve been making eyes with someone else...we can dance till Sunday morning.”
A really amusing track is “How My Eyes Adore You.” It starts out relatively slow but then breaks out into a hip-hop like sound, as the lyrics say, “Anytime you’re feeling lonely like a ship without a sail, anytime that a fall has tumble, we will rock where others fail, come along and be mine, all it takes is a little trying, please don’t you leave me crying.”
Light at the End of the World is worth picking up when it’s released on May 19. Bell declares that we haven’t heard the last of Erasure: “This album is to show people that our pop isn't finished,” he said. “It's saying we can still do it, we can still write great songs.”
