The Sammus Theory - See (It) Through
- See (It) Through, from The Sammus Theory, has songs that will work you up into a furor, some of which are great to workout to because of their fevered pitch. The drum work is speedy and the guitar play will draw you in without you even realizing it.
“The Epiphany” is a short track, but it has an infectious beat that makes it a good song to listen to while jogging to get your adrenaline pumping. It has buzzing in the beginning which acts as a buildup. Then the electric guitar bursts on the scene and the rhythm will push you to the limit.
“Counterfeit” has hard electric guitar work in the intro, as well as drum play from Joe Morris. On this track, the band is talking about how a certain someone’s phony persona has begun to be exposed, and that person seems to be struggling to keep up the charade, with lines like, “What do you see when you look in the mirror? Does it reflect back your life? Maybe you control your lifeless decisions…Try to explain to the ones that are closest, you really believe all the lies that are you. You’re a made up name with a made up face. What do you do when you're not even you? Made up life with a made up face. What do you do when you’re not even you?”
On “Something Special,” there is quick guitar work in the beginning and more forceful drum play from Morris. This track seems to be putting to rest the notion that the subject of the song is “all that,” with lines like, “I didn’t see anyone but me anyway, no signs not a word not a stare…You think you're tough, you think you're somethin’ special. Don’t you, don’t you? Well I’ve got news for you. I’ve become the stronger of the two…Holding my way in everything but you.” It seems the vocalist is stating that they have been underestimated. This would be a great song to put on a soundtrack to a movie where two former friends are now competing against each other and the one thought to be the weakling has surprised everyone by taking charge of the situation.
“56 Blank” has light drum play from Morris and then striking electric guitar sweeps in. The pace here is foreboding which makes it a song that could be the background music in a suspense thriller motion picture, played during a crucial moment in the film. The vocalist’s timbre reverberates and echoes as he repeats the line, “You can feel it coming.” This ominous line reinforces that this song could be played in a movie where things jump out from behind corners without warning.
The Sammus Theory’s See (It) Through has songs that might make listeners leap out of their skin, and others that will get them pumped up for any strenuous activity they might have to engage in. In the end, most of the tracks on the album will help listeners, See It Through.
