Onesidezero - Onesidezero
- Onesidezero’s self-titled album in its beginnings might sound like any other record trying to delve into the darkness of hard rock. But if you listen to each track in their entirety you will find varied tempos, thoughtful lyrics that do lean on the lurid side and a vocalist so full of fervor that he just might leak through your speakers and infect you as you listen.
“Carry Your Gun” is a sinister title for a song that talks carrying a firearm with seemingly ominous intentions as the vocalist emotes such dismal lines as, “Could I have lived in a time…Time is really someone else’s chore…Slowly drift away and I think what’s so beautiful. Someday soon we’ll all come round. You’ll carry your gun…We’re not so far apart and you’ll carry your gun.”
On “Breath,” there are more shadowy lyrics alongside fast drum and guitar work. This track talks about the final act of taking one’s terminal gasp as the vocalist slyly croons lines such as, “A last kiss goodnight now means goodbye. Alone in the dark, watch the clock…A last breath is it right alone in the dark drift away…Break the chains that keep me bound…Just one more breath. Just one more breath and not a sound,” What makes this song different from the usual baleful hard rock song that the guitar and drum tempo changes as does the vocalist’s tone. Both go from hasty to precise and this could catch listeners' attention very quickly as the vibe change adds a creepy rhythm to the song,
On “Whatever Happened To….,” there is hard electric guitar in the intro as the vocalist muses about long ago and the hateful feelings he has at how things have evolved, with lines like, “Has it really been so long that we forget what it meant to be young. As life goes on remember when we were young. All the things we could do. Used to think the world was ours…Can you recall your first romance? How innocent it felt to dance. Why does it change all the time…But remember when we were young everything felt so real. Is it too late to try and remember how it feels?” It sounds like the band is trying to recollect the past and is asking why things didn’t stay the way they were. The mordant tone of his voice could tell listeners he is bitter that certain circumstances have changed as the clock has ticked on.
Onesidezero’s self-titled album might look like your typical hard rock record but if listeners sit back, analyze and take in each song, they will discover that is far from the truth.
