The Fall of Troy - Manipulator
- The Fall of Troy’s latest album, Manipulator, is an amalgamation of thoughtful rock tunes and others, where this young band of 21-year-olds screeches their sentiments, often times inexplicitly.
“Cut Down All the Trees and Name the Streets After Them” has hectic guitar and drum play that will enflame listeners’ blood as the track treks on. The vocalist broods the lyrics which include, “Break yourself…Coming out of this foolish game. What could I have said…Point me to the rightness…And I’m taking you away…If I had my way…You would tell the truth.” In between the lyrics, another band member screams, which brings even more agitation to the track.
On “Quarter Past,” the musical mood changes drastically. The tempo slows considerably and the vocalist seems to talk about love, with lyrics such as, “Quarter past midnight. Sittin’ here in the moonlight. No offense but dear I hope you know that tonight I write to you. Love is a question and a conversation. Did I mention that intention? Let me demonstrate, elaborate…Honey how you taught me question after question. Story after story…I’m afraid what would you think of me anyway. Here’s a few things I might say.” As the song progresses, the beat changes instantaneously and you can hear the caustic tone of the voice of the singer, as the meaning of the song becomes clear. He is telling a particular girl just what he thinks of her and it isn’t favorable.
“Semi-Fiction” has rhythmic drumming in the intro as the vocalist’s timbre lowly emits lyrics like, “Waiting on my confidence to feel the night front through….She was nothing more than destiny anyway…It’s a shame that you would not be there.” It seems the band is trying to convey the feeling of a relationship not being all it claimed to be, and listeners might ascertain that the band is glad they finally understand that fact.
The Fall of Troy’s Manipulator is an album from a Seattle band that has a bevy of songs that vary in their rhythm and overall undertones. If listeners want a record that they can listen to, that expresses deep seeded emotions, and one they can blast at insanely high volumes, then Manipulator is that album.
