Alabama - Songs of Inspiration II
- It’s really no surprise that Alabama was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and has sold over 73 million records since the band came together. Alabama has a timeless quality, and their album, Songs of Inspiration II, only continues to prove it.
The album contains several old Southern gospel songs such as “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and “Love Lifted Me.” The final track is a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which is a very fitting song to conclude with. Alabama’s version of the national anthem fits in with the rest of the tracks in that it has no frills, and focuses instead on the simplicity and catchiness of the melody. The string instruments in the background are also a very nice touch.
Songs of Inspiration II reminds me of the movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and the soundtrack that followed. All of the songs are laid-back and have a peaceful nature. After being bombarded by Carrie Underwood and other similar artists over and over again on the radio, it’s nice to hear this genre of old-style country. I like Carrie Underwood’s music too, but it just doesn’t have that same down-home country feel like Alabama’s album does.
I used to live in Texas, and I might have to put this album on again the next time I start to miss that Southern lifestyle.
