Antonio Adolfo - Ao Vivo Live
- As I was preparing to write up this review of Antonio Adolfo’s album, Ao Vivo Live, I was reminded of how music is a universal language. I found Adolfo’s website so I could get a little background information, and discovered it’s all in Portuguese (luckily there’s a link for the English version of the site).
Even though I couldn’t understand the website when I first found it, I still thought the music was pleasing at first listen. It’s part classical and part jazz, almost like something you would hear in an upscale store or restaurant. The main instruments used in the songs are piano and quiet drumset parts.
While most of the songs are instrumentals, a few of the tracks include a female voice singing in some other language (Portuguese, perhaps?). The fact that she sings in a language I don’t understand actually adds to the album, in my opinion. It gives Ao Vivo Live a more exotic and elite feel. However, for those who prefer English, there are songs with English lyrics on the album as well.
Ao Vivo Live is probably not something I would play often, but it’s not a bad album. The songs are serene and calming, and they would make for good music to chill out to.
