M(US)ic

M(US)ic, the newest album from Damiera, is really energetic. In fact, it might be too energetic.

Every song is a guitar-thrashing, half-screaming-half-singing rambunctious bunch of noise. When I listened to the first song, I thought I was going to like the album. However, the more I heard the same sounds over and over, the more I got annoyed with them.

On a positive note, the guitarists of the band play quality parts on the album. Although M(US)ic as a whole is on the obnoxious side, it's heartening that the guitarists don't just rock out on power chords the whole time.

The song "Departures" adds some variety because there are no vocals. It's all electronic music, though, which I think subtracts from the quality. I would've preferred to hear an instrumental song with intricate guitar, bass and drumset parts.

"Ember Eason" and "Flora: Yield" provide a break from the energetic ruckus of the rest of the album. Too bad there aren't more songs like these on M(US)ic ? it would've made the album more enjoyable.
