Marie Knight - Let Us Get Together
- Marie Knight’s “Let Us Get Together” is a soulful gospel album by an artist originally known as Madame Marie Knight. This Brooklyn, New York native also lends a bit of R & B to each tune that brings an ever deeper meaning to each song.
The first track has expressive acoustic guitar as Knight croons such lines as, “Lord I feel like goin’ on. I feel like goin’ on.” As the song progresses Knight’s voice gets more fevered and listeners can feel the spark inside of her as she belts out each lyric.
The second track has more acoustic guitar work, but on this track it takes on a more chipper tone. As Knight sings there is clapping in the background which could rouse listeners to sing right along as Knight croons: “Let us get together right down here, Let us get together right down here. Let us get together right down here. Let us get together right down here. Let us walk together right down here. Walk walk together. Let us walk together…Let us do our living right down here. Let us do our living right down here…Live together right down here.”
The fourth track has quick acoustic guitar work and down home appeal as Knight sings about an infamous woman mentioned in the Bible with lines like, “if I had my way. If I had my way. If I had my way. I would tear this whole building down. Delilah was a woman, she was fine as hell, she had good looks god knows and cold black hair…Delilah sat down…If you please… if I had my way. If I had my way. If I had my way. I would tear this whole building down.” Knight goes on about Delilah’s capers and how she was one heck of a woman.
Marie Knight’s “Let Us Be Together” fuses rhythm and blues with gospel for an album that will touch people’s hearts and make them lift their hands and arms and rejoice.
