Carl Thomas - So Much Better
- “So Much Better,” from Carl Thomas is a smooth R & B album filled with songs that express devotion and heartache. On each song, Thomas coolly vibes his emotions whether they are of pain or of adoration, listeners will feel the forcefulness with which Thomas utters every note. “If I Could (Intro,)” begins with clapping and whistling and Thomas calmly whispers how he would like to use the power and lustiness of his voice to allay the world’s and a certain female’s ills as he utters lines like, “It’s you again. With that same old frown…I know what you need. A simple little attitude adjustment. Something to help you get your mind righr. I’d like to sing a song to all the world make it better and If I had the chance I would…I write the song, I’d sing the song…To your town and neighborhood. If I could I would.” On “Another You,” there is smooth keyboard work from Bobby Ross Avila and masterful background vocals from Mikey Dan that harmonize sinfully with Thomas. Thomas sings about not being able to perceive being with anyone else but his sweetheart and how if he couldn’t be with her he would settle for being alone as he croons lines like, “I can’t even picture myself being with anyone but you. I would much rather be all by myself If I couldn’t be with you. Because you make me laugh. That’s not all. With all the jokes you have. That’s not all. Ghetto as you wanna be, and that’s not all, and you’re so sexy.” Thomas is writing a musical love letter to his honey declaring how important she is to him. “2 Pieces,” has slow keyboard work from Avila and Thomas’ vocals echo giving the song a sultry flow. The rhythm of the song then becomes whimsical as Thomas muses about the anguish he has caused his lady as he sings lines like, “Girl, I know that I’ve caused you so much pain…I’m the one to blame. I can’t say I’m sorry enough. Don’t know how you put up with me…Baby I can’t take the thought of losin’ you. Cuz I know that it would break break my heart in two pieces. Girl, I don’t want to lose you. Now all that I want to do is do right by you. Make up for the times I wasn’t so nice to you and u stuck around.” It seems Thomas is trying to make reparations for all the times he behavior wasn’t what it should have been and how he is thankful to his woman for sticking around through the good and bad times. On “Though You Should Know,” there is what sounds like guitar work as Thomas harmonizes that he doesn’t verbalize enough how much his partner means to him. He amends this blunder with lines like, “Even though I’m workin’ a lot and sometimes I forget to tell you. Girl, I owe you all that I’ve got so everything I’ve have is cuz your my inspiration. My love makin,’ a lover and a friend. The woman that I turn to time and time again. And I just thought you should know. That it just don’t start for me till you walk through the door. Tell me that you care for me. Just thought you should know. That it just don’t start for me till you walk through the door.” On this track, Thomas is expressing how he isn’t whole until he is his girl’s company and how he wants to make sure she knows how deep his love runs for her and her alone. Carl Thomas’ “So Much Better,” is an album of declaratory songs to play for your darling. “So Much Better,” has songs that are perfect to play after a falling-out and you want to show how sorry you are and there are also songs that are great to play as background music for a special occasion with lyrics exemplify the profundity of your love for one another.
