The Hipwaders - Educated Kid
- The Hipwaders’ “Educated Kid” is an upbeat and enlightening album for children designed to teach them about some of the basics, such as things they will learn in school and issues they might deal with at home.
“Little Baby Brother” talks about how adorable the vocalist thinks his baby brother is, but he also mentions some of the pitfalls that having a younger sibling can entail. “Little baby brother, crawlin’ on the rug. You’re lookin’ so cute, I wanna give you a hug. Please don’t break my toys and I’ll love you forever.” There is sprightly guitar and drum work, and this song will speak to those who have a youngster around the house.
On the title track, the vocalist sings alongside whimsical guitar play that is aided by a synthesizer, which might explain the echo of the instrument. The song opens with the band talking about some of the elemental things children unearth in their wee years and then moves on to more serious things, such as student loans and the like. “Oh so cool. Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh. I learned to write. I learned to read. Now I can do most anything. Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh…Hey tell em how you did it. I’m just an educated kid.”
“Dewey Decimal System” has more guitar work, which might again be helped by a synthesizer given the odd sounds that follow. This track talks about being befuddled, but thanks to a certain school employee the vocalist gets back on track. “I fell in the book deposit bin. I could not swim, I was so scared, so unprepared I cried out…The librarian gave me a card he said ‘This will take you places besides where you are. Head for the future or go to the past. Yeah, a library card will get you there really fast.’ Dewey dewey dewey dewey dewey decimal system. Dewey dewey dewey dewey dewey decimal system.” For kids that are just learning about the library, this song gives them useful information as to how the reference center operates.
“Educated Kid,” from The Hipwaders, is an album that parents and children will both enjoy. It has catchy songs filled with beneficial instruction and is sure to educate your juvenile.
