Deva Premal - Sings the Moola Mantra
- Deva Premal’s “Sings the Moola Mantra” is the quintessential album to meditate to. This German born artist’s talents also include teaching piano as well as violin. In addition, her calming music is not Premal’s sole interest. She has also studied Shiatsu and Reflexology. This multi-faceted performer brings a refined fusion to this record that includes a single, 15-word Sanskrit mantra played over six musical arrangements.
“Part I” has a wind-like instrument starting off the album, which has a very tranquil tone that might call to listeners in a spiritual way with its contemplative rhythm. Percussion work comes in later, giving the song an even more composed pitch. Premal’s serene vocals complete the still pace of the song, making this fraction of the album one that will be easy for listeners to reflect to.
On “Part II” percussion takes the lead a little more. Premal softly harmonizes, which listeners might find soothing. They might even picture themselves relaxing beside a rushing waterfall as Premal expounds her tidings in a saintly rhythm.
“Part III” might remind some listeners of a belly dancing routine with its specific quality and beat. Guitar is present here, which alters the melody a bit from the previous parts of the record. Listeners could envision venturing through a desert or some other empty wasteland as Premal gets a little more intense in her vocalization.
“Sings the Moola Mantra,” from Deva Premal, is a new age album that will cause listener's nerves to be unruffled instantaneously. Her gentle voice will appease listeners’ will and make them drift into a place of complete tranquility.
