Jonny Diaz - They Need Love
- Jonny Diaz’s “They Need Love” is an album that blends life-altering lyrics with thought provoking melodies. There is an eclectic mix of genres on this album, from Christian and pop to even some country, but no matter what a listener musical zest is they will find Diaz’s music an enlightening change from the norm.
The title track has hypnotic drum work accompanied by guitar play that has a slight pop-like edge to it. Both Diaz’s timbre and the instrumentation echo as his voice resonates in such lyrics as, “He’s been preached at a million times so he can tell you what’s wrong and right but he still sits with a heart of stone cause condemnation is all he’s known.” There is a chaste message in this track as Diaz sings of censure from the Man Upstairs, which might disturb some listeners with its downtrodden vibe.
On “Hold Me” there is a slight country tone with Diaz’s deep vocals alongside esoteric guitar work. He emotes about wanting to flee but deciding to stay put and continue to be a role model to those in need. “Any other day I’d just run away from what lies ahead. But right here I stay. I’ve chosen to remain right where I’ve been led.” It sounds as if Diaz was guided to his current spot and, though he may feel vexed at times, he plans on sticking it out and putting aside his unsure feelings.
“Fool for Love” has skillful guitar strumming along with somber piano play and whimsical percussion work. Diaz sings about how the beginnings of a great love of his took shape. “No I won’t be the first, it’s been a beautiful curse since the day that love was formed…And yet I’m dying to fight for a love that is right. Oh a love that would make me a fool.”
“They Need Love,” from Jonny Diaz, combines messages of love for the Almighty along with songs of adoration for particular human beings. Diaz’s soft voice echoes the principle inherent in each song while also uttering powerful emotions.
