Dean Martin - Forever Cool
- The ultimate memorial tribute to one of the potentates of music, stage, film and television, “Forever Cool” showcases the best of “Dino,” also known as Dean Martin. This 14-track collection includes Martin’s original vocals along with new orchestrations and duets with some of the biggest singers of today.
“Please Don’t Talk About Me When I’m Gone” has that cool vibe that fans of Martin have come to know and venerate. On this track Martin and English singer Robbie Williams, former member of the band Take That, seem to sing together in total affinity. Williams begins the song and talks about a certain lady going one way while he goes the other. “Please don’t talk about me when I’m gone. Ooh honey, though our friendship ceases from now on.” Then, Martin chimes in with some sage recommendations with lines like, ”And listen if you can’t say anything real nice it’s better not to talk at all is my advice.” Williams then resumes the vocal duties. “We are parting. You go your way and I’ll go mine. It’s best that we do.”
On “I Can’t Believe That You’re In Love” Grammy-award winning singer Joss Stone and Martin band together for a love song with that big band vibe. Rhythmic drum work accompanies the two as they sing about the implausible fact that they are in love with one another as they seamlessly emote such lines as, “Your eyes are blue, your kisses too. I never knew what they could do. I can’t believe that you’re in love with me…I’m on your mind each place you go. They can’t believe that you’re in love with me.” Stone’s bright and soulful voice works wonderfully against Martin’s calm timbre for a track that is love personified.
“Just In Time” has Martin being paired with renowned jazz saxophonist Dave Koz. Koz’s breezy stylings only add to Martin’s smooth musings. “Just in time. I found you just in time. Before you came my time was runnin’ low. I was lost…My bridge’s all but crossed no where to go…I know just where I’m goin’...You found me just in time, and changed my lonely life that lucky day.”
“Forever Cool,” from Dean Martin, is a true collection of his classic songs but updated with some fresh voices. Admirers of “Dino” are sure to be pleased, and this compilation could even add new fans to Martin’s camp.
