Benedikt Brydern - Violin Passion: After Midnight
- German composer, performer, and violinist Benedikt Brydern's newest solo release, “Violin Passion: After Midnight,” is a rich mix of classical violin styles, with jazz influences, early swing trends, and Asian forms. Brydern studied at the Richard-Strauss Academy of Music in Munich and at the USC Thorton School of Music in Los Angeles. Brydern has composed for numerous films, including “The Tin Soldier” and “The Walk.” He also is a founding member of the “Hot Club Quartette.”
Following up his 2005 solo debut, Brydern has returned with another diverse record. “Shinjuku Joy” easily has a place in a contemporary Asian film. “Motender (After Mozart)” is reminiscent of the 1997 “Titanic” soundtrack, a take off of Mozart with a modern twist. In “Waiting for Elise (After Beethoven),” Brydern mixes the original Fur Elise theme with his own interpretations. The album is an intellectual mix of Brydern’s own musical style along with swing, jazz, and Asian themes, combining for a unique set of tracks.
