Jackson Taylor Band - Jackson Taylor: Dark Days
- “Jackson Taylor: Dark Days” is an album from the Jackson Taylor Band. The band has undergone multiple changes over the years, but the one overwhelming stable element has been songwriter Jackson Lee Taylor. Growing up in Texas, he led a nomadic lifestyle, which included living in California, Washington State and Nashville. The vocalist’s deep vocals and proficient instrumentation illustrate the heartache of a life spent moving from place to place.
On “Outlaws Ain’t Wanted Anymore” there is rocking guitar and rhythmic drum work in the intro. The vocalist’s timbre grooves as he sings about drinking his cares away. “You whiskey drinkin’, deep thinkin’…So tear down the bolsters.”
The title track opens with wicked guitar riffs and speedy drum play. The beat of the song has that signature country flair about it as the vocalist goes on about dealing with times that have not been so stellar. “Yeah, well bring on them dark days. Bring on them dark nights too. I ain’t afraid of the devil and I sure ain’t afraid of losin’ you.” The vocalist seems to be conveying to listeners that he and his sweetheart have made it through life’s rough patches and because of all they have weathered he feels their bond is stronger then ever and unable to be broken.
On “Goodbye Morphine” there is slightly slower guitar and drum play. The vocalist muses about bidding adieu to someone he views as a crutch in his life and that he has to move on. “We’ve had some good times…Been through them bad times. Just like all those good and bad times our time’s come and gone…So goodbye and so long morphine…But your love has grown too strong.”
“Jackson Taylor: Dark Days,” from the Jackson Taylor Band, is an album that shows in song the struggle that Taylor has endured throughout his life. The somber vocal tone of the some of the tracks also exemplifies Taylor’s woes and might cause listeners to even shed a tear.
