Koop - Koop Islands
- Koop's Koop Islands is an album that fuses two drastically separate musical genres -- electronica and swing. The Stockholm based duo, Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson, accomplish this by jumbling samples of instruments and making them into tracks that have a surreal, spiritual, yet infectious beat.

“Koop Island Blues” begins with soft percussion that rings. There is also an island vibe to the song, due to the gull sounds in the background, which could make listeners envision themselves stretched out on a sandy shore, relaxing, while watching the sunset. Singer Ane Brun’s lusciously tender voice then brings a sultry tone as she sings of her funk at the loss of her beloved, but she seems to be rebounding rather quickly as she emotes lyrics such as, “Hello my love. It’s getting cold on this island. I sat alone. I’m so sad on my own. The truth is we were much too young. Now I’m lookin’ for you or anyone like you.”

On “Forces…Darling,” there is demanding drum work that starts off the track with a boom, and this song will ensnare certified swing music fans with its danceable rhythm. Soulful crooner Earl Zinger lends his deep vocals to this track as he goes on about a woman who seems to bulldoze all barriers, but according to Zinger, she has fallen from grace as he explains with a silky tone such lyrics as, “She had force of nature…Hot to have insurance for when that angel fell. Understand to be jumpy. Dark on the stairs…Now love sits beside…But when it was over…As shadows grow they can’t believe…How the night got so strong.” Horn play can be heard intermittently throughout the track which smoothes out Zinger’s timbre and makes it even more physical.

“Moonbounce” has an intro with an underlying electronica vibe along with light percussion, thus bringing the perfect merger of swing and electronica music. There is also sweet harmonizing along with flute work that gives the song a solid sensuality that accents the welcoming beat.

Koop Islands, by Koop, is filled with songs that combine two genres, and in doing so, this duo baptizes an irresistible new sound that will engage multiple music fans. The addition of selected singers to certain tracks brings a singular cadence and proceeds to make listeners yearn to journey to Koop Islands.
