Ricardo Silveira - Outro Rio (Another River)
- Ricardo Silveira’s newest effort, Outro Rio (Another River), fluidly combines personal style with Brazilian influences. Silveira grew up on styles such as bossa nova and samba, which are indigenous to Brazil. He also studied at the Berklee College of Music, prompting him to move to New York. He played with local musicians from both the Boston and New York scenes, widening his influences. Upon his return to Brazil, Silveira became a studio musician in high demand, and released his first solo record in 1985.
Outro Rio is a mixture of jazz, Latin themes, Brazilian music trends, and Silveira’s own signature sound. “Chuva de Manha” is a great example of all these genres mixing together, sounding like a contemporary spin on a classical composition. “Moonlight in Rangiroa” takes traditional Latin guitar work and updates it with jazz percussion and pop-like flow in the melody; while “Choro Bacana” definitely has a place in the contemporary area of Brazilian music themes.
