Darlene Love - It’s Christmas, Of Course
- Darlene Love’s “It’s Christmas, Of Course” is Love’s first holiday album. It showcases a novel spin on 70s and 80s classics, originally sung by legends like The Pretenders, Yoko Ono and Tom Petty just to name a few. Love has also forayed into the acting field as Danny Glover’s wife in all of the “Lethal Weapon” movies. Her powerful vocals emit such gratification at the spirit of the season that listeners will be inevitably drawn into her sphere of utter joy.

With “Christmas All Over Again” there is guitar and organ work that utilizes a bustling beat. Love sings about the feelings she associates with the jubilee. “Girl, it’s Christmas time…Everybody’s singin’, all the bells are ringin’ out and it’s Christmas all over again.”

“Who Took the Merry out of Christmas” brings forth a somber view of the holidays, as Love reminds listeners how the Christmas has been tarnished by abhorrent circumstances and events. “Who took the merry out of Christmas? People all over the world forgot about merry. Too busy fighting wars….Searchin’ for the light and can’t seem to find the right stuff.”

“Christmas Wish” has soft guitar and piano play. Love sings about her childhood recollections of the day. “Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. It’s the time of the year when all good dreams come true. I look at all the toys under the tree, makes me think about the way things could be…There is a magic in the air…I listen to the twinkle as it comes my way. Must be the music that the angels play.” The visions that Love portrays for listeners with this track are ones filled with closeness and overwhelming togetherness.

“Ít’s Christmas, Of Course,” from Darlene Love, is a record from a performer who has had hits that have graced the Billboard Hot 100 list, and she has even performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Her sprightly vocals are sure to bring glee to listeners and remind them of the magic of Christmas no matter where they are and who they are with.
