The Bellamy Brothers - Jesus Is Coming
- Thirty-one years ago, The Bellamy Brothers had the number one song in the country with “Let Your Love Flow.” Three years later they won a Grammy for their second number one single, “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me?). Twenty-eight years later, the brothers are still here, with a new found faith and a collection of highly enjoyable, well written gospel songs on their latest album “Jesus Is Coming.”

The album is filled with stories told from a real, relatable perspective. On “Grandma’s God” they sing about all the ways they tried to find themselves, but it wasn’t until they went back home (in a spiritual sense) did they find the love and peace that they needed. "I grew up in the 60’s with the Beatles and The Stones/following the gurus with the other hippie clones/transcendental medication/tripping with the freaks/falling in and following some new God every week,” they confess. It wasn’t until the felt their mother’s mother’s faith that they knew what was real and necessary in their lives.

As heartfelt and true as The Bellamy Brothers are, the CD is not without a sense of humor. The title track of the album gets the point across, but not without making you fall to your knees and pray and laugh at the same time. “Well He walked on the water/and He raised up the dead/and we teach all the children/that he died for our sins/but something’s gone wrong/this world’s in am mess/Jesus is coming…… and boy is He pissed” is how the song's opening verse greets you.

More humor can be found on “Lord, Help Me Be The Person My Dog Thinks I Am,” as they sing about how hard it is to resist temptation, but realizing that their dog still thinks that they are the best person in the world. Priceless, especially when you have a dog that will fetch you your bible AND bury your liquor in the front yard.

However, the highlight of the record has to be “I Aint Goin To Hell” a foot-stompin, wave-your hand revival song that sings of their devotion, and they’ll travel the world testifying of the love of the Lord, but they ain’t going to hell. It’s enough to make the biggest heathen jump to his feet and clap along.

The Bellamy Brothers already have a rich musical history and “Jesus Is Coming” does nothing but add to that. The country feel the CD keeps throughout only helps its story-telling aspect. If and when Jesus does come, I’m sure He’ll stop at the nearest record store and add this to his collection.
