The Spoils

Nashville's latest success isn't a country artist, rather the indie band USSA, with their debut release "The Spoils." Terming themselves as a visual, minimalist, rock band on their MySpace page, USSA is the epitome of new age, independent bands. Formed in 2006, USSA consists of Paul Barker, bassist; Duane Denison on guitar; Gary Call, singer; and drummer Johnny Rabb. Two of them are former members of other bands, while Call is also a multi instrumentalist, and Rabb is an author.

"The Spoils" is an odd, yet likable, mix of hard rock, punk and metal. Call's vocals only begin to showcase his immense talent. "Blue Light" is a dark and bass driven track, with Call's vocals carrying the song over heavy percussion and deep guitar tracks. "Summer Endless Summer" takes the term minimalist to heart. While the music tracks are strong, they for the most part just serve as a background for the vocal tracks. "The Spoils" is a unique record that will draw fans from all different genres of music.
