Larry the Cable Guy - Christmastime In Larryland
- At about 14 seconds into the third track on Larry the Cable Guys “Christmastime In Larryland” album, he speaks probably the truest statement ever recorded on CD. The skit is a eulogy to John Lipscomb, the inventor of the laugh track (which is used throughout the album, surely the only way to generate laughs). The Cable Guy says, ”and now, before we continue with this lame attempt at Christmas humor.” Wow. Even he knows that this record is unfunny.
The idea is a pretty good one: recording an album of Christmas-themed skits in the style of old radio shows. What follows may be one of the lamest attempts at humor I’ve ever heard. When someone farting the tune to "Jingle Bells" is supposed to be funny, then you know you’re in trouble. Other “comedy” skits include a Muslim comedian telling anti-American jokes, a GPS system that points out the best strip clubs and Christmas carols encouraging family members who have worn out their welcome to leave.
Not sure what the idea behind the album was, but whatever it was, I'm sure it looked better on paper. "Christmastime in Larryland" is probably the second worst holiday gift to give… besides fruitcake.
