Music Needs You

This 24-year-old jazz guitarist, composer and teacher's first release, "Music Needs You," is poised to put him on the map for fans of new-jazz. Backed with Pete Robbins (alto sax), Albert Sanz (piano), Perry Wortman (upright bass) and Joe Smith (drums), this improvisational recording shows a great deal of promise, and will be available February 12th 2008.

Born and raised in Maine, Blotnick studied and honed his craft at (and was the first American graduate of) the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. What makes his style notable, and sets him apart from other new jazz artists, is his attention and dedication to the melody and his use of standard form in his compositions. For fans of the genre, Ryan Blotnick is a stand out artist and this release is definitely worth a listen. Basically, if the name John Abercrombie means anything to you, give "Music Needs You" a listen.

Stand out tracks: "Winter Melt" and "Thinning Air."
