Exit 420 - Itis
- “We make music you want to roll a joint too [sic] or just get plain f****ed up” proclaims punk rock band Exit 420 on their MySpace page—all in capitals and without censoring the expletive, no less. The very first track on their album “Itis,” titled “Hey Mom, I Smoke Pot,” shows that they live up to their word. Besides drugs, “Itis” also includes references to sex such as in Track 7 “Under the Table” and Track 12 “Jerkin’ Off.”
“Itis” has musical variety in it from track to track, and the beat on many tracks induces movement to the music, but some of the songs can feel repetitive in their lyrics. Strong language is also used in some of the songs’ lyrics, so if you don’t like swearing, I suggest you stay away from this album. Not being a big listener of punk rock, I was pleasantly surprised to hear a mix of more mellow-sounding tracks balancing out the loud, angry songs on the album. Track 3, “Somebody I’m Not,” seems to start out mellow but then the vocals and the music gain a harder edge to them around the 1:51 minute mark.
