Reward
Turbine is a 4-man band that has influences coming from bluegrass, rock, country and jazz. The band includes a harmonica that they occasionally use to sound like an electric guitar.
In the bands nine-song second CD, Reward, it is obvious that they are a jam band. The result of the jam band music that they play varies. The first few songs on the CD aren't great. The instrumentals are good but the singing and lyrics aren't the best. They have a tendency to repeat a phrase to create a chorus and the singer's voice doesn't mesh with the music too well.
However once "Cranberry Creek" begins things start to look up. The song isn't the best lyrically but it's an improvement and I definitely enjoyed it. The next two songs were also good. I really liked, "Seven Years Of Bad Luck." Once the title track began I could tell the quality went down a little lyrically but I like the music so much, I wasn't as bothered. The final song is good in a sing-along type of way.
The influence of different kinds of music is definitely audible in the music. I can really feel the country and bluegrass. I suggest sampling some songs on I-tunes (where the CD is available) downloading the ones that you like, not buying the whole CD. However, if the band comes anywhere near you on a tour I would go, because they definitely sound like they'd be fun live.
