Jamie Craig - The Lost Dream
- Jamie Craig is one do-it-yourselfer. According to his MySpace page, he composed, arranged, played all the instruments, recorded, mixed and produced all of the music on his album, “The Lost Dream.”
Like its title, Craig’s album evokes sadness and longing with its instrumental, New Age music that contains strings, saxophone and plenty of bass. (Craig played eight different bass guitars while making the CD.) Craig’s MySpace page also reveals that the composer and self-taught musician--see, DIY again--wanted “to capture a person’s loneliness and sadness which is experienced when hopes that were once strong and real are never going to materialize” with his album’s music.
I did not find the second track, “The Steel Wheel,” to be particularly sad, and liked its mildly bouncy beat, although if its music could be a color, I would call it gray. The mood turns more somber with the later tracks, such as with the saxophone melody heard on track 10, “Our Lost Dreams.” Craig’s music makes good accompaniment for thinking regretfully of our own lost dreams but try not to listen to it on a sunny day—it could get you down.
