Polka Floyd - The Polka Floyd Show
- From its name, you can guess what kind of music is on the album The Polka Floyd Show. Performed by Polka Floyd, the album mixes the rock of Pink Floyd with polka music. It seems an odd combination but it does not fail miserably as a musical pairing either. While you listen to the driving sound of an electric guitar on “See Emily Play,” for example, the disc’s first number, a polka drumbeat is accompanying it. For those still wary of listening to a combination of rock and polka music, you may be relieved to hear the album only has seven tracks on it, chosen to cover different eras of Pink Floyd. Polka music probably has an antiquated or frivolous connotation associated with it, especially with genres like pop, rock and hip-hop dominating radio today, but at times, I hardly noticed the “polka” aspect of The Polka Floyd Show, as when listening to the third track, “Breathe/Time.” But if you must make fun of polka, the band seems ready to accept it. At the start of the album’s opening number, a voice asks “Polka Floyd, what is wrong with you?” One thing that’s not wrong: their playing skill.
