Eric Sardinas - Eric Sardinas and Big Motor
- Eric Sardinas and Big Motor is an album where you can feel free to turn up the volume and rock out. Blending blues and rock into a contemporary sound, Big Motor is Sardinas’s fourth album. The artist admits on his MySpace page that the so-called “swampy introduction” in the opening track, “All I Need,” where the music is quiet, then increases in volume, and then kicks up the excitement even further with Sardinas’s vocals coming in, “is kind of a metaphor for the big motor sound coming at you.” While the music on “All I Need” “revs” you up, Sardinas’s vocals may be a different story. They sounded a bit hoarse and scratchy to me, especially when he screams the lyrics. In later songs, such as “Ride” and “Gone to Memphis,” he tones down the volume some of the time and his voice sounds better. Much more enjoyable to listen to is Sardinas’s work on the slide guitar, and the playing by his other band members, Levell Price on bass and Patrick Caccia on drums. Matt Gruber produced, engineered and mixed the album.
