Dive Index - Mid/Air
- Mid/Air is the latest electronica/alternative album from Dive Index. It combines singers and musicians from around the world and uses their talents on the album’s 11 tracks. According to Amazon.com, artists include vocals and lyrical work by Natalie Walker, Merz, Ian Masters (from the Pale Saints) and Cat Martino; and instrumental work by Kevin O’Donnell (drummer for Andrew Bird), CJ Camerieri (horn player for Rufus Wainwright) and Julia Kent and Maxim Moston (cellist and violinist for Antony & the Johnsons). The songs are relaxing but also mostly melancholy, touching upon themes such as being lost in a foreign country, the lonely life of a fisherman and channel surfing. The combination of electronic and acoustic music forms a complex, intriguing background sound for the female and male vocalists on the album. The female vocals sound particularly ethereal on the opening song, “For Centuries,” and the closing song, “The World is Kind.” Mid/Air is worth a listen to hear the variety in the music and artists on one album.
