Rosey - Luckiest Girl
- On jazz singer/songwriter Rosey’s MySpace page, there is a picture of her striking a bicep-flexing pose, similar to that of World War II-era icon Rosie the Riveter’s, complete with the “We Can Do It!” speech bubble/caption above her head. The picture serves as a good metaphor for Rosey’s melding of the great jazz music of the past with her own contemporary sound on her soon-to-be-released album, Luckiest Girl. Influenced by such jazz artists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong and more, Rosey can sing the original songs on her album with soul or sultriness, with equal ease. Backed by a number of musicians on drums, bass, piano/rhodes, saxophone, trumpet and guitar, Rosey is a good choice for those who like the style of classic jazz and blues delivered by a contemporary singer on original songs. On some tracks, such as “Hand in Hand” and “First Time,” Rosey sounds more like a modern pop artist than one of the jazz greats of the past, so her album may please non-jazz fans too. Luckiest Girl will be available on April 8.
