Our Story

D. C. Anderson's voice has the kind of power in it that comes from years of vocal training and performance. Even with the humorous songs on his new album, Our Story, his talent and skill as a trained musical theater performer shine through, as in the opening number, "My A** Look* Fanta**tic." Ranging in subjects from the Mona Lisa in the humorous "Nine Percent Disgusted: An Art Song," to the sadness of romantic love in ballads such as "'Til Then," Anderson's voice corresponds with the appropriate emotion in his songs. The minimal instrumental accompaniment on the songs in Our Story helps highlight Anderson's voice and also sets the tone for a song, as in the soft piano melody of "This Is My Love." Anderson is accompanied by Steven Landau, David Robison and Deanna Witkowski on acoustic piano; Geoff Packard and Gannt Kushner on acoustic guitar; David Mergen and Amy Ward Butler on cello; Ritt Henn and Gannt Kushner on acoustic bass; Andy Hamburger and Darrell Oystreck on percussion and Larry Tapper on harmonica.
