Michael English - The Prodigal Comes Home
- The Prodigal Comes Home is Michael English’s first studio album in almost eight years. The Christian pop CD offers plenty of songs that are relatable and enjoyable to listen to. The opening track, “Sanctuary,” gives a feeling of comfort when listening to the chorus of laying down “all the weight I carry.” The second track, “Feels Like Redemption,” is made even more resonant by the knowledge that English’s personal and professional life suffered when in 1994, he admitted to having an affair while married to his first wife. “The Only Thing Good in Me” also illustrates not just English’s connection to God, but also anyone’s belief in God as a source of goodness. The energetic eighth track, “A New Day,” serves as a good contrast to the mellower preceding track, “Time.” Also included among the album’s 11 tracks is a cover of John Hiatt’s “Have a Little Faith in Me.” English has a strong voice, even after having been out of the studio for so long. Regardless of his past mistakes, his return to studio recording with The Prodigal Comes Home should be welcomed by fans of Christian music.
