Andrew McKnight - Something Worth Standing For
- Andrew McKnight’s fifth album, Something Worth Standing For, is primarily made up of folk songs, but also has a couple Americana songs and some blues included in its 16 tunes. With tracks like “Times We’re Living In,” which deals with the government’s disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina victims, “These Shoes,” a song told from an immigrant’s viewpoint, “Bridges,” about becoming a parent, and “Wind Whispers Your Name,” about those who have sacrificed their lives for us in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, McKnight’s songs deal with social and environmental issues and have poetic lyrics in them. Singing lead vocals and playing acoustic, electric and/or slide guitar on his songs, McKnight is also accompanied by other musicians on a variety of instruments and occasionally on vocals, which helps liven the album. Something Worth Standing For is a good album for contemplating today’s society and hearing one man’s observations and opinions of American life while we reflect on our own.
