Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree
- British electronica duo Goldfrapp, composed of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, has called Seventh Tree, their fourth and latest studio album, a “sensual counterpoint to the glitterball glamour of Supernature,” their last studio album released in 2005. Seventh Tree does sound different from their previous work, with strings, guitar and keyboard being clearly heard on the new album. Alison Goldfrapp’s vocals also sound more natural than they were on, say, Supernature’s “Ooh La La.” The soft music and vocals on Seventh Tree often create an ethereal feeling, although another reviewer, using the third track, “Happiness,” as an example, has pointed out that the lyrics are darker than one may first suspect. I, for one, had difficulty distinguishing some of the lyrics in the songs, due to the softness of Goldfrapp’s vocals. For those hoping the Goldfrapp duo would follow Supernature with more of the same type of music, Seventh Tree will probably disappoint. For those in the mood for mellow music, however, Seventh Tree can fit the bill.
