Putumayo - Putumayo Presents: African Party
- This album is appropriately titled as a party (Putumayo Presents: African Party); every song feels as if you are in the middle of a huge dance party celebrating love, friendship, family, etc. The percussion makes you want to get up and dance or, at the very least, tap your foot. The harmonies, rhythms, and vocals infuse to create songs that can make anyone feel good and have a great time.
“Perenperen,” by Maciré Sylla, is most interesting because it seems to blend a little of what we listen to: rhyme/rap, with traditional African music and language. “Mulemba Xangola,” by Bonga, gives solos to the congas instead of a guitar, which is interesting to listen to because of its difference with common American music. Each song uses traditional African drums with guitars and brass instruments, and it all melts together wonderfully.
For fans or those interested in hearing Latin American music and good dance music that does not sound like anything you hear in a club, give this album a listen.
