Whispers of Love

Fionnuala Gill was the lead singer with Riverdance and has finally decided to release her own album, Whispers of Love, full of traditional Celtic songs remade to her ideas. All of the melodies and vocals are gorgeous; the music has elements and qualities that make the wonderful peacefulness and strength of Irish music. All of the songs are deeply calming as well, making it hard not to close one's eyes whilst listening.

English is used just as much as the Celtic language, but the Celtic language suits the music making it sound more beautiful. "Winter, Fire, & Snow" uses images that are easily identifiable with winter nature and the harmony of the piano also evokes thoughts of winter. "An Mhaighdean Mhara" and "Mo Chile Mear" use different elements for their focus but both display the exquisiteness of the Celtic language; I now want to learn the language.

This reminds me a little of Enya due to its calming effect; though Gill stands on her own easily with her ethereal voice and wonderful interpretations of traditional songs.
