Paradigm - Melodies for Uncertain Robots
- Melodies for the Uncertain Robots is full of interesting songs that, although categorized as instrumental, really do not fit in any category based on the music. Many of the songs seem to have replaced the power of the voice with the saxophone; the other instruments are given time to shine like in not-just-instrumental songs. However, occasionally, the piano and the guitar get to be the focus of the songs. And the guitar solos are awesome; they make me want to pick up my guitar.

“Fire Fly” and “Melancholy Collide” are my favorite tracks; “Melancholy Collide” for its somewhat sad middle and the guitar solo. “Fire Fly” is interesting because it almost has a pop rock feel to it and with the addition of the sax, you’d think it was something like ska, but it is nowhere near anything you’ve probably heard before.

Some songs, though, were too long and became a bit dull. After awhile, the focus on the sax started to wear me out; it was not what I was expecting after listening to “Fire Fly.” It is a very interesting and different album with its successes and a few flaws.
