Langhorne Slim

Langhorne Slim's self titled album has some fun songs. The overwhelming genres within Langhorne Slim are indie, alternative, and a smattering of pop rock and bluegrass. Combining indie and bluegrass, the song "Restless" is similar to earlier works by Nickel Creek. Partly reminiscent of Flogging Molly (especially in the song "Spinning") and the Rolling Stones (in their acoustic moments -- think "Wild Horses"), Langhorne Slim has released a CD with some very enjoyable songs, and some songs worth passing over.

The acoustic guitar is used in heavy measure for this album, which is fitting, as the reintroduction of the acoustic guitar has been a popular element with some of the newer artists. There are certainly some catchy songs on this album, and overall, listening to the entire CD is not an unpleasant experience -- it's just that not a lot really stands out on this one in particular. "Honeymoon" is a fun rock song; it has simple lyrics which are repeated often, but the repetition and the psychedelic, upbeat background tune work very well. Some of the songs, like "Sometimes," sound more like a singer sitting with a guitar and just talking aloud while simultaneously strumming a guitar. It is not an unpleasant CD, but interested parties would do better to purchase a few of the individual songs off of this album rather than buying the whole thing.
