Various Artists - Putumayo Presents: Cafe Cubano
- It's always pretty cool when well known stars team up together for an album. The only difference in this situation is that the performers will be new to many American listeners. According to lore, the popular Cuban music singers on this album were tapped to perform for Putumayo, as they were the best, and Putumayo aimed to introduce the lively and lovely music of Cuba to a broader audience. The album is a lovely one.
The entire flavor of this CD is a very delicious one. Each and every song is entirely different, with a feel all its own, and entirely authentic. "El Chacal" is a catchy and thrilling beat, sung with gusto by Jose Condo and Ola Fresca. "Despues de Esta Noche" by Felix Baloy, is a deep and sensuous melody that sways and flows to fabulous effect. Armando Garzon sings "Escandalo." That particular song is sung lovingly by the wonderfully voiced Garzon. For anyone who is interested in becoming acquainted with the music of Cuba and the Caribbean, this is a lovely introduction. And for those who are already fans, this is a very nice CD.
