Gulf Coast Blue

Gulf Coast Blue is full of beautiful singer-songwriter folk songs with lovely deep vocals by Denice Franke. Her lyrics are very simple, straightforward, and poetic. The melodies and harmonies for each track are gorgeous in their minimalism. There are some sounds that, in my opinion, have a Native American feel to them. On many songs, Franke creates vivid images of people through detailed lyrics, especially the women of "Tare Lee" and "Seminole Girl." "Sergio's Watching," among other songs, tell stories that are intriguing to the listener.

There are a few interesting features to her tracks as well. For example, in "Harley Girl" there is an electric guitar solo that is almost unexpected. Also, "Elegance" peaks the interest of a listener, with the intent of hearing the album or just skipping stations to find something good on the radio, by utilizing two acoustic guitars and they are almost dueling for the spotlight in, but do not take away from the understated beauty.

If you like singer-songwriter or folk music, definitely pick up this album.
