John Mayer - Where the Light Is - John Mayer in Los Angeles Live Disc 2
- I never realized how much John Mayer sounds like Dave Matthews. That is no bad thing, as both Mayer and Matthews have wonderful and richly flexible voices. Mayer's newest album, Where the Light Is, is culled from live recordings of Mayer performing in Los Angeles. Mayer, the object of Jennifer Aniston's affection, is pleasant to listen to, but this album is mostly icing on his already stellar career. This is a fun collection to listen to, especially for those who are already familiar with the smooth voiced crooner. Nothing new and revolutionary will be coming from this new album. The best parts of this audio compilation are recordings of Mayer re-covering previous hits, like "Waiting on the World to Change," "The Heart of Life," and "Why Georgia." Many performers do not sound nearly as impressive live as they sound after a nicely packaged recording studio version of a song; yet again, Mayer breaks that mold, by sounding wonderful while singing live, warbling and showcasing his amazing vocal scale. Interestingly, Mayer's live recording of "The Heart of Life" is possibly better than his previous version, as he improvises and adds fun twists to the beautiful tune. Well played, Mr. Mayer!
